Windows 7 RC (Release Candidate) Download Available May 5th

By Tom Schultz  //  Blog Post  //  1 Comment

Yup, the title pretty much says it all.  Oh what? You want to know where you can download it from?  Well  unless you have a MSDN or TechNet Plus subscription you’re going to have to wait until May 5th to get your hands on the RC.  Here’s the links!

If you’re an MSDN subscriber then click here!

If you’re a TechNet Plus subscriber then click here!

Everyone else can just wait until May 5th and then goto these websites.

MSDN Windows 7 Customer Preview  site.

TechNet Windows 7 Customer Preview site.

General Windows 7 Customer Preview site.

Now, if this whole process seems just a little too complicated to make it worth the trouble then I HIGHLY suggest going  to www.ubuntu.com and trying that out!

Ubuntu 8.10 upgrade to 9.04 (Grub and ATI Issues)

By Tom Schultz  //  Blog Post  //  No Comments

Well I took the plunge this weekend and upgraded my ubuntu 8.10 laptop and ubuntu 8.04 desktop to ubuntu 9.04 and I ran into two big problems.  First, my grub menu.lst wasn’t updated correctly and second my ATI video drivers weren’t working after the upgrade.   I’ll paint a little picture of my situation just so that things all make sense.  I’ve did not upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10 on my desktop due to VPN PPTP issues that 8.10 was having and I really needed the VPN capability but that’s all that was stopping me at the time.  I did not need the VPN functionality on my laptop so I went ahead and upgraded that machine.

How to get a Sansa Clip working with Rhythmbox in Ubuntu

By Tom Schultz  //  Blog Post  //  1 Comment

So I got me an 8gb Sansa Clip from Walmart the other day for $50.  Yeah I know pretty decent deal for an 8gb. Anyway I was trying to get it to work with Rhythmbox, and I was having some trouble but then I ran across this post on Ubuntu Forums.

So apparently all you have to do in order to get the player to show up in Rhythmbox is to  add a file called “.is_audio_player” in the root directory of the Sansa MP3 player.

Lenovo R500 Review

By Tom Schultz  //  Blog Post  //  No Comments

On January 29th 2009 I bought a new laptop.  My old laptop (Dell E1405) was showing it’s age (3 years old).  The battery was broken and only lasting 5 minutes but the processing power still performed well for my daily tasks. It had an Intel Core Duo  T2300 (1.6ghz)  processor and 2.5gb of DDR2.  I biggest complaints on the E1405 was the screen and the battery.  The 14.1″ screen displayed colors horribly.
